Briefly Humans, Silvia Gatti's second exhibition with the gallery, brings together a new body of work in which Gatti (IT, 1983) navigates the space between the physical and the ephemeral, pondering the essence of land, body, consciousness and the concept of belonging within it. Each work, in its own way, seeks to uncover the boundaries between human and machine, resilience and vulnerability, poetry and programming language. Gatti is particularly fascinated by the stories that emerge when these boundaries begin to blur: how and why do certain physical processes give rise to human experiences?
In her multidisciplinary practice, Gatti often uses her own body as a starting point. Metaphysical questions are, in turn, mirrored in physical or technological gestures. In the series Celestial crushes, we see fragmented, elusive depictions of a body. The paper is crumpled during a physical performance, embracing and compressing it almost to the point of breaking. The result is a topographic, almost extraterrestrial surface - a metallic sheet crumpled upon impact, caught between heaven and heart. In Adivinations, multiple monitors generate different parts of a poem. Operating both in connection with each other and independently, the message and meaning continuously shift. Additionally, the electrical circuit is entirely visible, laying bare some of the foundations of the digital realm.
