Centrale Markthal, Amsterdam
11 - 14 September, 2025
By re-using existing imagery and concentrating on repetition and the act of drawing itself, Marijn van Kreij (Netherlands, 1978) playfully challenges the myth of the creative genius and the Western notion of progress. From 2012 onwards, Van Kreij began to focus on the late work of Pablo Picasso, resulting in a vast body of work, ranging from the monumental Picasso Grids to extensive series of drawings based on the Interior Landscapes that Picasso created in the summer of 1955 from his studio in Cannes.
The presentation at NAP+ zooms in on the window, an important element in visual art and a recurring theme for both Picasso and Van Kreij. For the series Untitled (Picasso, L'Atelier, 1955), Van Kreij painted dozens of variations on the studio window, based on Picasso's L'Atelier from 1955, on different types of paper. The studio window can be seen here as a kind of link between inner life and the outside world, but also between the artist and the viewer.
We hope to welcome you to the second edition of NAP+, which this year takes place in the monumental Centrale Markt Hal in Amsterdam. Click here for more information about the location, tickets, and opening hours.
The gallery will be closed on Thursday, September 11.
